Objective

The Guyana SPAN dataset provides insights to a more accurate geologic model for the tectonic evolution of the Guyana-Suriname Basin. Deep penetrating seismic data has revealed the identification of a previous unknown volcanic margin that was related to early stages of opening and the magmatic activity. The Demerara Plateau is largely floored by seaward dipping reflectors (SDRs) up to 20 km thick, excessively thick volcanic crust and transitioning into Jurassic-aged oceanic crust. The overlying intervals associated with the Central Atlantic passive margin phase are likely composed of volcani-clastics and deltaic sediments that flowed to the northwest into a newly formed Central Atlantic.

The data also resolves the extent to which transpression occurred between the tectonic plates of northwest Africa and northern South America creating a highly structured passive margin sequence of the Suriname margin prior to opening of the Equatorial Atlantic.

The Guyana SPAN dataset provides the highest resolution for the earliest intervals of the Guyana-Suriname Basin and provides the best regional overview for the evolution of the basin and true composition of the Demerara Plateau.

Central Atlantic Margins – Suriname (Phase I) and Guyana (Phase II)

Core Laboratories is pleased to announce a new addition to its portfolio of Central Atlantic Margin integrated geological studies during 2016. In partnership with Staatsolie and Guyana Geology & Mines Commission, this new rock based geological study will be presented in two phases: Phase I Suriname (database of c. 19 wells), and Phase II Guyana (database of c. 16 wells).



The study will provide a detailed and comprehensive evaluation of the extent and quality of all major Reservoir intervals and where possible Regional/Local Seals, all within a correlative stratigraphic framework. The study will focus on the integration of well and rock data to allow interpretation of basin evolution in paleogeographic time slices through the drilled successions, and this will be complimented by an evaluation of fluid and hydrocarbon source occurrences. The dataset created will be an invaluable aid to the interpretation of sediment transport paths and depocentres within the largely undrilled deepwater blocks where seismic evaluation is currently the only option. Moreover, the study will directly compliment Core Laboratories regional datasets in the conjugate African Atlantic Margin.

FTG Survey Onshore Suriname

 

AustinBridgeporth in collaboration with Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V will be acquiring approximately 15,000 km² broadband gravity survey, using  a combination of a Full Tensor gravity Gradiometer (FTG) and scalar gravity meter, over the onshore area of Suriname. This data set will provide a comprehensive exploration data base to aid future exploration activities.

 

Acquisition and Processing of Multi Client 2D seismic survey in Offshore Suriname

Staatsolie signed an agreement with WesternGeco to acquire and process about 5,500km of long offset 2D Multiclient seismic data in offshore Suriname. The survey area is chosen in water depths ranging from 25 to 50 m. The objective is to improve the imaging of the Jurassic graben structures in the survey area. The expected start of the acquisition program is in April 2017 and delivery of the final products in December 2017.
